" I was in need of a new waxing place since - "

" - I recently moved back to Philly. Mi Cumbia and Karina were highly recommended so I scheduled my appointment. Yesterday was my first appointment and I will definitely be going there for all my waxing needs! I arrived about 5 minutes before my scheduled appointment and on the dot, Karina greeted me and walked me back to the waxing room. WOW!!! She took the time to talk to me about waxing and the techniques and wax she would be using. This was my first full on Brazilian and she made me feel very comfortable. When she got to waxing she was quick (not rushed) and thorough!! She talked to me about maintaining the area to help reduce ingrown hairs and I left with a little antibacterial cream for the first 12-24 hours. In all the years I have been getting waxed this was ranked possibly the top. There was pain, but it was minimal. Upon getting home I maybe had 1 rogue hair not caught by Karina's eye. Not to mention the summer special that if you go back in 3 weeks, they offer a discounting follow up to keep you beach ready.

The atmosphere and rest of the employees were also top notch. I will most definitely be going back!!! "  Alia Palumbo

" You won't be able to go anywhere else once - "

" - you've tried Tierra Mia! After trying a few places, I've had all of my waxing done here on a regular basis for over a year now. It's the cleanest, least painful and best results (smoothest, longest-lasting and least traumatizing for my skin) I've ever had from wax. She's gifted at eyebrow shaping. Everyone here is warm, welcoming and friendly and the entire place has personality- none of that cold, neutral chain spa feel. They care about the business, the services and the cusomters. "  Josefa Silva

" I literally just walked in the door from my coconut - "

" - manicure at Tierra Mia and I feel positively blissful. As if that didn't justify my visit enough, my nails look flawless. That's no easy feat, especially when the shade is dark. And speaking of which, one of the things I love about this salon is that you are guided through the polishes and encouraged to check them out on your nail first before committing to a color. What I originally thought I wanted turned out to be too dark but a second polish was just what I was looking for.

Treat yourself, ladies. "  Michelle C.

" Pros: Customer Service! High quality wax! - "

" - Great technician (Karina, the owner)!
Cons: Waxing tends to run 5-10 minutes behind schedule of your appointment.

Overall: Smaller location, so sometimes hard to get an appointment. Definitely recommend scheduling all waxing well in advance if you know about trips/ events etc. She is the only eyebrow waxers I've had that took the time to go over the shape of my eyebrow in a general, and then follow up with where I should and shouldn't be plucking to let hair grow in. She is truly an expert in her field and I love the wax they use. I have also gotten bikini here and highly recommend it as well- she does a wonderful, professional, job on all waxing. Only place I go in the city. Waiting the 5-10minutes is not big deal- I always just catch up on emails.
PS- Amazing chocolate bars that make great gifts! Be sure to ask for free sample to try out the different flavors! "  Sally S.

" I've been coming to Mi Cumbia for nail and waxing services - "

" - for a while and have nothing but good things to say about ambiance, experience, and customer service. The staff are friendly and attentive. The prices for manicure/pedicure can seem steep but I don't get my nails done regularly so I'm willing to pay more. They provide a level of cleanliness that you don't get in a typical salon and use non-toxic polishes so you don't feel like you're inhaling fumes. Vivian did the best manicure I've ever had! As for waxing, it's all single-use and again a level of cleanliness that is not always maintained at other salons. Karina, the owner, provides the waxing services and is very professional. Mi Cumbia gives you a packet of lotion to prevent infection and ingrown hair with every appointment.

I've noticed they get very busy in the summer so you have to schedule your appointments accordingly! "  Brenna R.

" Brought my daughters here for a mani pedi - "

" - treatment before my daughter's wedding. aside from a glitch with making an appointment, this was a wonderful experience!  the salon is clean, warm and welcoming. there are only two pedicure chairs, so the pedicures are relaxing and calm. I like that they use led lights for shellacs and the wide selections of colors are an added bonus. I will be coming back whenever I'm in philly. "  Dawn F.

" After having a terrible experience from another salon - "

" - (which I have also reviewed) I was very skeptical of a place to go next for my Brazillian waxes. Mi Cumbia is the best place I have ever been and I feel so lucky to have found it. I know I'm just adding to the already glowing reviews but seriously, this place is amazing, Karina knows her stuff and I always leave feeling like a million bucks.

added bonus: that coffee. wow. "  Veronika V.

" OK. I am simply an aspiring restaurant reviewer. "

" My yelps are almost entirely food. A bit bored in the city, decided to give a pedicure a try. I have never had one and it was time to splurge"
I had my friend and his son join in the fun.  The three of us had quite the treat. The owners/hosts made us feel at home, along with their fantastic team. We went with both special treatments of both manicures and pedicures.  But first, they offer us a drink popular in Columbia (the owners home). It has sugar cane that is boiled and reduced to a syrup and is then mixed with fresh lime and water. Awesome.
First the manicure. I had the coconut treatment. Besides a perfect manicure, coconut oil is brushed then massged into your skin, then fresh coconut flakes are rubbed in to exfoliate.
Next the pedicure. Nice cushy massage chairs allow you to control settings. I had the Cumbia. Along with a pedicure, cucumber puree is massaged into your legs and feet along with cucumber slices placed between your toes. I was apprehensive about getting the pedicure because I have very tickly feet. Besides a moment or two my feet were not sensitive and I found the treatment (and my neglected feet) to be very relaxing.
I enjoy a good massage maybe once or twice a year. This experience provides a similar level of indulgence.
I do hope to schedule some more in the near future.
This place is all organic. Even better. We all had a great time with relaxation and laughs. "  David A.

" By far the the best spa in the city! "

" I go to Mi Cumbia regularly for both nail services and hair removal.  Everyone from the receptionists to the manicurists is pleasant and accommodating. The soy based hair removal product is gentle and Karina is an expert at making one comfortable during the treatment.  Marjorie is a gem at mani/pedis; she thorough and sweet. Next best is the all organic nature of the business, from all the products used to make one feel pretty to the tasty chocolates and coffee sacks that line the walls.  Oh! And have a cup of Columbian coffee...yum! "  Jammie M.

" Just came back from my Bagazo del Coconut mani-pedi - "

" - which was easily the longest pampering session I've ever had. Blanca is very attentive and super sweet! I like to zone out a bit during my mani-pedis and she made the perfect amount of conversation.

I'm usually not a big fan of coconut but man, their coconut oil smells AMAZING. My arms and legs smell (and feel) fantastic! I also love how they offer you Colombian chocolate and coffee - so yummy!

Their polishes are water-based and need "curing" - which means you can't let water touch your nails for a minimum of 10 hours. Kind of crazy, right? But it is oh-so-worth-it in the end. Just a heads up - some of their services require a deposit, which will be deducted from your end total after the appointment. Gratuities don't have to be in cash, which is convenient. I definitely appreciate their green initiative as well - everything's organic and natural! "  Anne K.

" I decided to try this place, as recommended by a friend. "

" I had a wonderful experience at this salon. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with a smile and a big welcome, as well as no chemical smell! yay. Their location is very tiny, therefore appointments are necessary. It's so unique, chocolate to purchase, as well as their products they use on you, jewelry, coffee, etc. They even let me try a sample of their chocolate. I had work completed by Gabriela. She did an amazing job throughout. It was so relaxing, as I had the Columbiana (manicure, pedicure, foot massage), therefore small talk wasn't necessary as I was just focusing on relaxing. A lady came in and was strapped for time for her appointment, but they were able to complete the job in the time she asked. I was told my experience would be about 1 1/2 hours, but it was more like 2 hours because of dry time, to pay and set up the next appointment! I plan to come back in two weeks for my birthday. There were a variety of non-toxic polishes to choose from - water based, sparkle, etc. I didn't choose the water based because there are strict guidelines to follow when on it, and I didn't want to risk ruining the polish. It's been over 24 hours and no problems with the paint job. Also, my feet are so silky smooth, even after walking downtown for hours after the experience! It is a bit on the pricey side, therefore I don't think I can go every 2 weeks, but it's def something every woman OR man (i'm bringing my boyfriend next visit), should experience! "  Dawn A

" I look forward to my waxing appointments with Karina. "

" She is warm, sensitive, highly professional, talks you through the process and may I add, is for me pretty painless. Mi Cumbia is also a cultural oasis with Justin, Karina and their engaging team, you won't be disappointed spending quality time in the wonderful place. I can't wait for my pedi/mani, no fumes, and organic products! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE going to Mi Cumbia!!! " Moshay L
